How to get here:
Pauanui is easy to get to from Auckland, Tauranga, Rotorua or Hamilton. From either of these cities, it should take you less than two hours. It’s a nice drive on a windy road that takes you through the most stunning green gorges. Alternatively, you can take the scenic coastal route.
From Auckland and Hamilton: navigate your way to the Kopu junction 5 km south of Thames. Follow State Highway 25a across the Coromandel Peninsula to Tairua/Whitianga/Whangamata. Continue onto Pacific Coast Hwy/Tairua Rd/State Hwy 25 (signs for Whitianga). Turn right onto Hikuai Settlement Rd (signs for Pauanui).
From Tauranga and Rotorua: navigate your way to Waihi. Follow Tairua Rd/State Hwy 25 (signs for Whitianga) and travel the Pacific Coast Highway up the coast. Turn right onto Hikuai Settlement Rd (signs for Pauanui).
There is an airfield at Pauanui so if you’d like to arrive from the sky, it’s possible too.
